Opening Acknowledgment at the beginning of each event

Before we begin, we want to take a moment to honor the Sherpa people, an indigenous community of the Himalayas known for their strength, resilience, and deep connection to nature. The Sherpas have guided countless travelers through some of the most challenging terrains in the world—not just as pathfinders, but as trusted stewards of safety and wisdom. Their culture values humility, courage, and harmony with the natural world.

Cherpas Speakeasy draws inspiration from these values as we guide you through hidden experiences, connection, and curiosity. Tonight, we invite you to embody the same spirit—adventure, respect for nature, and trust in the journey. With gratitude to the Sherpa people for the example they set, we begin our experience together.

The Name

The name Cherpas is a play on Sherpas. When my finance and I really began exploring the world of mushrooms, especially around shrooming (psychedelics), he would call me his “Sherpa.” It was an endearing term that I held close. When we started this business it only made sense to use Sherpa in the name, however, being that there is a cultural history to the term Sherpa, and being Native Hawaiian, and both of us being Moorish, I know how I feel about cultural appropriation. Because of that, I didn’t want to use the same spelling. However, we did want to educate at all events and through our business, the history and culture of the original Sherpas. We have a page dedicated on our website about Sherpas and each event, we give recognition and thanks to the history and culture of Sherpas before each event we host.
